Rike Maier studied law at the Humboldt University Berlin and the University of Paris I (Panthéon-Sorbonne). Her research interests include copyright and media law as well as European law. While at law school she focused her studies on national and international copyright law and worked as a student research fellow for Professor Pernice (Chair in Public Law, Public International Law and European Law). For her doctoral thesis she examines creative uses of film works and copyright
