Nicole Stremlau is Head of Programme in Comparative Media Law and Policy at the Centre for Socio-Legal Studies, University of Oxford and she is Research Professor in the Humanities at the University of Johannesburg. She leads a European Research Council project on Social Media and Conflict with a focus on Africa. Recent books include Media, Conflict, and the State in Africa (Cambridge University Press); Speech and Society in Turbulent Times (ed with M Price) (Cambridge University Press); and UNESCO’s flagship publication World Trends in Freedom of Expression and Media Development.
