Lies van Roessel studied Communication and New Media Studies at Utrecht University, with a specialisation in Game Studies. For that, she also took courses at the IT University of Copenhagen. In 2008, she graduated with a master’s thesis in Computer Game Literacy. From 2008 to 2013 Lies has worked as a teacher and researcher for HKU University of the Arts Utrecht at the school of Games & Interaction. There she has looked into applied (serious) games and their development processes. One of her focus areas was how to design and develop games for health care. At HIIG, Lies works within the project Circulation of Cultural Goods. She focuses on copyrights in the games sector and how the sector is regulated with regard to imitation and innovation.
