Katherine Reilly

Dr Katherine Reilly is an Associate Professor in the School of Communication at Simon Fraser University in Vancouver, Canada. She is co-editor of Open Development: Networked Innovations in International Development (with Matthew Smith; MIT Press, 2014), and a special edition of the Journal of Developing Studies on the Platform Economy for Development (with Anil Hira, 2017). In 2020 she marks 20 years of collaboration with the International Development Research Centre (IDRC), through which she has addressed the digital divide and e-democracy in Central America, the theory of open data for development, and most recently, policy frameworks for the global platform economy. Her current work focuses on digital rights and citizen data in Latin America. The article presented here was written to provide context for the work of development practitioners and activists working on citizen data audits in that region.
