Joris van Hoboken is a professor of law at Vrije Universiteit Brussels (VUB), as well as a senior researcher at the Institute for Information Law (IViR), University of Amsterdam. His research addresses law and policy in the field of digital media, electronic communications and the internet. He is a specialist in the field of search engine law and regulation and regularly writes, teaches and presents on the issues of data protection and intermediary liability. Joris was awarded a PhD by the University of Amsterdam (2012) for his thesis examining search engines and freedom of expression, and serves as the chair of the Board of Directors of Bits of Freedom.
