Guy T. Hoskins is a doctoral candidate at York University. His research focus is on the global political economy of digital media, and in particular its intersection with questions of digital civic rights and communication policy. His doctoral thesis examines the constitution of digital rights at the periphery of informational capitalism through analysis of the pathbreaking Brazilian law, the Marco Civil da Internet. Earlier work published in the likes of Television and New Media and presented at conferences such as IAMCR, AoIR and Data Power has examined similar questions of communication policy and the global political economy of the internet. Guy is fluent in Spanish and Portuguese and teaches courses on digital media, communication theory and policy at Ryerson and Royal Roads Universities.
