Dr. Alina Wernick, LL.M. acts as the Principal investigator of the project "Smart City Technology and Long-term Human Rights Risks" at the Legal Tech Lab at University of Helsinki, Finland. She is also affiliated with the Helsinki Institute of Urban and Regional Studies (Urbaria) and an adjunct member of the Graduate Program in Science & Technology Studies at York University, Canada. Her research focuses on the socio-legal dimensions of technology. She holds a PhD in Law from the Ludwig Maximilian University on patent law and open innovation and LL.M and LL.B. degrees from the University of Helsinki, Finland. Previously, she was affiliated with the Humboldt Institute for Internet and Society, the Max Planck Institute for Innovation and Competition, Germany and Aalto University, Finland.
